Dave, You are correct. Furuno/Maxsea called this afternoon and it is an additional $250 to activate AIS. Might also need to upgrade to version 12 for additional $$. Thanks for the info. Downloaded the demo of Coastal Explorer and it showed AIS targets, recognized my GPS, charts and instruments right away. Called them and ordered it over the phone for delivery tomorrow.

It might not have as many features as MaxSea, but it seems much more intuitive. Thanks for your reply. By the way, our home port is Durham and we left New Bern on July first for on a one year leave of absence.

We're in Hampton, VA and still working kinks out, but having fun. SvIntuition wrote:Hi, Is anyone using MaxSea 11 and an AIS receiver? We purchased a Milltech receiver and can see the incoming AIS info in the data Input/Output section of Maxsea, but ship positions aren't plotting on the charts and ships don't show up in the 'Mobiles' grid. Haven't had good luck with support from Furuno since they took over the US distribution of MaxSea. Thanks, Mark Hi! Maxsea 11 and AIS works fine for me. I had the same problem like you, but after playing with the comportsettings (in Maxsea!!!) it works fine.

I have to look (im in the inetcafe now) but i think i take a higher speed (38400 bd) and than it works! If interested i can send you the optimal settings a little bit later fair winds Michael. Hope someone knowledgable is still reading this! I'm interested in getting an AIS receiver and was hoping to use it with MaxSea. I have V11.05, and thought there was a 'mobiles module' or something like that that worked with V11. When I contacted MaxSea, gave them my dongle number, etc., they report that I must update to V12.5 ($300) and add the AIS/ARPA module for $250.

I've spent lots of money on MaxSea updates over the years, many times feeling that I was only getting 'bug fixes' along with minor product enhancements. Are there any dealers out there who still have the V11 version of the AIS support (if there is one) that I can buy, or anyone with more information? Thanks in advance!
